Q'n'A:
What made you decide to participate in the Harcourts Foundation Kokoda Challenge?
Exactly that – it will be a challenge I feel mentally and physically and I have always wanted to do something that pushed me to the limit. I also love the idea that we are doing this to give to people who need help.
What do you hope to get out of the Trek?
I want this trip to change my life – I expect to make very close friends, I believe this will be a life changing experience in so many ways.
What do you think you will miss the most?
Family – and without a doubt the everyday comforts we take for granted.
How will you mentally prepare for this experience?
Be physically ready – if I know I can physically cope then I know I will mentally cope.
What are you mainly looking forward to?
The journey, the friendship and the end
What are you most afraid of?
Leeches – and not too keen on the helicopter rides in either
How will you overcome this fear?
Bring a cigarette lighter to burn the little suckers off!
What sort of training are you doing to help prepare yourself for the journey?
I have started already, continuing my daily walks on beach with dog but after New Year I am going to do them in my boots to wear them in. I am also doing the spin classes and three different weight sessions a week. Will take a lot more seriously after the New Year – there will be no more excuses not to go to gym! Choke and splutter – I am also going to attempt to go alcohol free after Xmas – lol my biggest challenge!
If you could take one luxury from home, what would it be?
My memory pillow
What will be your primary motivating force to keep going?
Being told I would not make it because it is too challenging and too hard.
